Daniela N. Männel is a former Professor of Immunology at the University of Regensburg (1991-2016). After taking her Doctorate at the Max Planck Institute for Immunobiology at the University of Freiburg (1977), she worked as a postdoctoral fellow and guest researcher in the USA (Laboratory of Microbiology and Immunology, NIH, Bethesda, MD) and in France (Laboratory of Virology, Institut Curie, Orsay). She then went on to work as a research assistant at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ, Heidelberg), where she received her habilitation in experimental immunology at the Medical Faculty of the University of Heidelberg in 1985. She transferred to the University of Regensburg in 1991, where she initially held a Fiebiger professorship, before moving to the Chair of Immunology at the Medical Faculty in 2003. Her research areas include inflammation, infection and tumour immunology.

In addition to her research and teaching work, Daniela N. Männel was an active member in various non-university committees, including the Board of Trustees and the Scientific Advisory Board of the German Cancer Research Center (2004-2010), the Grants Committee on Collaborative Research Centres (2002-2008) and the Senate of the German Research Foundation (DFG) (2006-2012), and the Scientific Advisory Board of the Robert Koch Institute (2009-2016). In addition, she was a member of the Scientific and Technical Advisory Board of the Bavarian State Government (2004-2010) and of the Commission for Research Integrity of the Austrian Agency for Research Integrity (ÖAWI) (2011-2016).

Daniela N. Männel has been a member of the “German Research Ombudsman” Committee appointed by the German Research Foundation (DFG) since 2017.
